Five years ago a woman was gang raped in a remote village in Pakistan. Such crimes in the rural areas were and still are very common. Unlike many women before her, Mukhtar Mai decided to confront her assailants.

Mukhtar Mai defied the conventional thinking and fought against a discriminatory system in which tribal leaders play God and decides a woman's fate. She decided to take her battle to the highest courts in Pakistan and fight for justice. Mukhtar Mai became an international figure in the struggle for women's rights.

Mukhtar Mai now runs a school for young girls in her native village. Dishonour Defied is the story of how Mukhtar Mai made a life with courage after the tragedy that befell her. It's also the story of other women and girls struggling for their rights in Pakistan in the wake of the Mai case.

LESSONS IN FEAR
Israeli and Palestinian Kids on the Frontlines of Education

A feature documentary film
Director & Producer James Cullingham
Producer & Editor Igal Hecht

Does the solution to the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians rest in the classroom rather than in the angry, fearful streets of the region?

Lessons in Fear takes a behind-the-scenes look at how ordinary kids are educated in one of the world’s trouble spots.

"Lessons in Fear probes the other kinds of 'occupation.' Not just territorial, but the occupation of the soul..."
- Geoff Pevere, Toronto Star and Rogers Television's Reel to Real
